How To Face Baby Out in the Omni Classic (Formally 360) Baby Carrier

Christina Soletti

When your baby is about 5-6 months old and has strong head and neck control, you can try to face baby out in the All Position Omni Classic (formally 360) Baby Carrier or newer all-in-one models like the Omni Deluxe Baby Carrier, which supports the same ergonomic forward-facing position with added comfort features for parents.

Be sure to watch for signs of over-stimulation and if baby gets sleepy, turn them back in (facing you).  Our message is simple: follow your baby’s lead and respond to their cues. We acknowledge that parents know their babies best, so choose the position that works for you and your family.  Once you've decided that facing your baby out is right for your baby, be sure to follow the tips below (not-so-subtle hint: USE THE GREY BUTTONS!).

The Ergobaby Omni 360 is now known as the Omni Classic. While the name has changed, the forward facing instructions and ergonomic carry positions remain the same.

Ergo 360 Front Facing: When Is Baby Ready?

Before trying the Ergo 360 front facing, make sure your baby:

  • Has strong head and neck control

  • Is typically around 5-6 months old

  • Is curious about their surroundings

  • Can sit upright with minimal support

Forward facing in the Ergo 360 carrier is designed for short periods of time to start with, allowing baby to explore the world while still being safely supported.

Ergo Front Facing Instructions: Step-by-Step

When setting up the Ergobaby 360 carrier front facing, always follow the instructions and double check all buckles and straps.

1. Adjust the Seat Width

Ensure the Velcro inside the waistband is on the widest setting, and the carrier is set to the grey buttons on the front of the baby carrier to adjust the seat so baby’s legs are supported from knee to knee in an ergonomic “M” position.

2. Position Baby Correctly

Baby should be sitting upright, facing away from you, with their chin clear of the carrier panel. Ensure you do a pelvic tuck to ensure little one is sitting in an ergonomic position. 3. Secure All Buckles

Fasten the waistband snugly and adjust shoulder straps for even weight distribution.

4. Check Baby’s Comfort

Baby’s face should be visible and kissable, and their airway should always remain clear.

These Ergo front facing instructions apply to the Ergobaby 360 carrier and are very similar to the setup used in newer carriers like the Omni Deluxe, which was designed to make switching between carry positions even easier as baby grows.

Forward Facing in Ergobaby 360: Tips for Comfort & Safety

Keep outward facing carries shorter than inward facing ones as little one gets used to outward facing.  While forward facing, watch for signs of over stimulation and turn baby back inward if they get tired or fussy.

Forward facing in the Ergo 360 carrier can be a fun way for babies to engage with the world, just remember that inward facing is always best for naps and longer carries.
